Every property emergency is assigned a Project Manager and a Superintendent. They are dedicated to restoring your property from beginning to the final punch list. They will schedule necessary trade subcontractors to begin restoring your property. HARBRO’s list of subcontractors are thoroughly screened and are required to carry a high level of insurance, certification and skill set to ensure that every job meets HARBRO standards.
Throughout your restoration project, our CEO (James Franklin), and President (Dave Moll) implements a work in progress meeting with your specific Project Manager to ensure quality work and accountability.
- After the fire department has left the property, it is the owners’ responsibility to protect their building from further damage. All insurance policies mandate that it is the insured’s responsibility to mitigate their damages to minimize or eliminate secondary damage from occurring, regardless of fault or cause of the fire.
- All holes, broken windows, open roofs and open doors should be covered, secured or boarded to protect your property from secondary damages caused by weather, theft or vandalism.
- Ascertain if there are any emergency power or plumbing needs, such as providing power to an undamaged part of the property, to maintain the businesses in that area. Communicate this to your HARBRO representative so that the necessary work can be provided.
- Contact your insurance company.
- The insurance company will begin the investigation and estimation claim process with a contractor or construction consultant, and many times will also retain the services of a private fire investigator to determine the exact cause of the fire.
- The contractor will begin Phase 1 of the Emergency Services (in conjunction with investigation).
- Each fire loss will have subsequent water damages, as the suppression of the fire will take large amounts of water. In multi-story structures, the water damage can be more significant than the fire damage.
- Initiate dry-down of adjoining structure units due to fire suppression if required.
- Possible dry-down of structure maybe required.
- The contractor(s) will provide a scope and estimate of work to restore the property to its pre-loss conditions.
- The contractor and adjuster will reach an agreement on the scope of work that needs to be done for the reconstruction and shortly thereafter, the price of this work.
- Contractor to begin Phase 3-a complete rebuild.
- Remember, the choice of who works on the property is up to the building owner or the responsible party (i.e. Property Management Company).
- The adjuster may also involve other parties to assist in the handling of your claim, such as an accountant to help calculate potential loss of business income.
